Update-Hypertufa Planter

Hmmmmmm

Shouldn't this look gray and dry ?
Doesn't look anything like a few cement molds that I made.
Had to take cover off to dry....way too damp!
Don't understand the covering...how can it dry?

Yes, I'm afraid this is going to crumble. Getting nervous :(
Will take out of mold in 3 days.

Got some ideas for a much smaller planter next time.
Know I need better molds(mostly for the center),mix finer and maybe add more water.
And make it thinner !!

  1. Well it looks good to me, Patsi--but what do I know about cement molds? Nada! It's really cool that you enjoy making planters like this! It sounds fun. I wonder what happened to your mix this time to make it turn out w/a different consistency? Hopefully it won't fall apart and you won't have wasted all of those materials.

  2. Jan,
Added peat moss and perlite !!!
    All strange to me.

  3. Maybe it won't fall apart, leave it in the mold until you are sure it is cured enough to hold together. The center needs to be rigid enough to not bow in. I used a metal container with a bag of sand in it to hold it down. Time is on your side. :-)

  4. Hi Patsi

It will be fine. We made one many years ago and it always looks good although very heavy so be sure you find the right spot first off.
I look forward to seeing it planted up.

  6. I hope it turns out for you. I bet if you let it really dry it'll be okay. Its going to look great.
