Getting Some Sunshine

What's the first thing you do when returning home after days away ?
Check out the GARDEN !
Not too exciting yet...

A few shade lovers...established beds.
Hydrangea(Mophead) have no idea what kind of "mophead".

A little Mophead

Have so many different kinds of ferns but I'm guessing this is Lady Fern
(Athyrium felix-femina)

Astilbe...had as many as 6 in this same area but they never impressed me.
Maybe they need more sun, or it could be that the blooms are just very short lived.

Chameleon Houttuynia-looks like ivy doesn't it ?
This is a slow grower and easy to pull out.

It was always so rewarding watching my own seedlings grow and produce flowers but the disappointing weather this spring may have changed that...at least so far this year.
But lately...we're been getting some sunshine !
Maybe there's hope for late performance.

Now some sun lovers...mostly from the garden mart.

Hibiscus

Beebalm with Feather Reed Grass planted along side of it.
Looks kinda neat mixed this way.

Obedient Plant or Physostegia 'Virginiana Miss Manners'

closer view

Red Caster Bean (seeds from Victoria)sharing the arbor with Madam Galen Trumpet Vine.

Unknown Annual

Butterfly Bush...Buddleia davidii
This was just surviving in light shade for years, then I moved it to current full sun location.
Happy now but looks like it should be pruned for a nicer look.
Wonder if I still can shape it up...

closer view

G-Hakonechloa Aureola

Catmint or Nepeta 'Walker's Low'

Marigolds

Some kind of Daisies.

A few Coreopsis grandifora-tickweed "sunrise".

Coneflowers (from seed years ago) just starting to bloom.

Beautiful flowers. I especially like the bee balm and feather grass. Great combination.

I think that might be an African daisy.

Everything is beautiful. Love your Hibiscus, Obedient Plant, Bee Balm, well just all of it I guess. I'm sure I've had Bee Balm - hmmm wonder what happened with that. 'Nother error I s'pose.

Beautiful photographs! Your blog is very informative. Your entry about the different types of shade was particularly helpful to me. I am so glad I found you.

I can't pick a favorite! Just beautiful photos- you have a wonderful garden, Patsi!

Nice! My one castor bean snapped off.....I'm doing better with the volunteers but nowhere near as well as yours.
Love that Hakonechloa grass, I can't seem to get it to grow in our shade garden.
The shot of your beebalm with Feather Reed Grass is gorgeous. I don't think I knew beebalm came in blue....very nice!
So you grow your Chameleon plant in the shade? I should try that. Can never get mine to do much, in fact I always forget it's there until I'm weeding near it.
Your garden is looking great!

Looks like your garden is loving the sunshine it is getting now. I love the combination of the Beebalm & that Grass! Your unknown annual looks like Larkspur to me. :)

Beautiful garden & photos! Your unknown annual looks like Larkspur. Love the bee balm mixed with the feather reed grass - so pretty! I really enjoyed my first visit here to your blog.

Everything looks wonderful. I love my white Obedient plant. Butterfly bush is tough and can takes to pruning well.

Fabulous set to blooms....and I love the hosta with the huge leaves...they are a particular favourite of mine...

Bee balm is so pretty.....it does not do too well in my garden, so I have given up...

The butterfly bush you can cut down to 6 inches from the ground next spring....it will regenerate fine and be much neater. I do all my bushes every year to keep them in shape and to get bigger blooms......

Chad,
I think you're right...somekind of African daisy.
~~
Linda-RG,
Hope I have your name right. That's so funny but true about having plants then having them disappear.
~~
Pam,
Glad to be of help. Now I have to learn about sun gardens....new to me.
~~
Tessa,
Ahhh...it's coming along. Thanks.
~~
Victoria,
The beebalm is suppose to be purple..I think.
Chameleon here does best in "light shade"(about 4 hours direct sunlight).
~~
Rachael,
The one I know for sure that is Lurkspur ...the rabbit ate.
~~
Deb,
Welcome !
Don't post a great deal...but if you like an easy read...that's me. I think I do more writing on comments than the posts.
~~
Connie,
The Obedient plant is new..most sun plants are new this year. Hope it comes back in 2010.
~~
Cheryl,
The hosta is "sum and substance".
Have to make a "to do" list for next spring and add pruning the butterfly bush.
Sorry to say...I pruned my honeysuckle early May and it disappear,really...it's like it died.

Looks Really Great over there! :-) I've been in and out for the past couple of weeks, so it's nice to be able to see what's happening over at your place! Your unknown daisy is quite unique. I hope it's a perennial.

It is fun to see what's happened while you're away. You did have some nice surprises. I love the Monarda and feather grass!

Beautiful flowers! All the rain this year has made everything grow very thick (at least here in Virginia; assume the same in NJ?).

I think your unknown annual is an Angelonia, but I've never seen one with variegated flowers.

I just love the photo of the monarda with the grass. A perfect combo. I'll have to remember that. Never saw monarda that blue, it's lovely.

Love the Hakone grass too. Would love to have it but I've heard it prefers a moist soil. We get prolonged dry spells here.

The beautiful unknown annual is Angelonia augustifolia.

Shady,
Sometimes it's good to be busy. Well, it depends. I do remember that the daisy isn't a perennial.
~~
Joey,
It's just starting to be kind...except for my shade plants. Although I lost some of my hostas.
:(
~~
Catherine,
Just saw our first hummer since early June today on that same Monarda. Happy happy !
~~
Entangled,
Gotta get your name. I believe the rain is still in your area. Hope it gets sunny.
~~
Marnie,
Hope the monarda and the grass continues to do well. Should get more Hakone grass...got 2 of them last year and it came back hardy.
~~
Anonymous,
Thanks for the name but it would be nice if you left yours. I like to comment back to my readers to acknowledge their thoughtfulness.
