Cucuzza Squash

My husband every spring has to stop by the same small garden center a few miles away.
The garden center is tiny. Behind it is a sizeable area with greenhouses ...years ago it was acres of farm land (when the family business founder was alive). Most of the farm land has been sold off to developers but not the greenhouses or garden shop.
Long story short...This "Long Bean Squash" has been grown in their family for many, many years, and seeds probably originated in Europe. We have many plants and now are saving seeds for this unusual heirloom squash, which we learned grows well between tomato plants ! It's a vine that grows on top of tomato vines as they begin to weaken ! By the way it's delicious.....and can grow bigger than a baseball bat if you let it.
Thanks for the ID Mary.

  1. Cucuzza Squash! Haven't had it in years.

The Italian aunts would slice, batter, and then pan fry them, yum.

Now you've got me interested in finding some seeds to grow, so our kids can try some.
